Five Ways To Even Out Uneven Lips

Your confidence somewhat depends on the way you look.

Everybody does not have a symmetrical face, or perfect eyebrows, or the kind of lips they want. Some may prefer fuller lips, while few might want to get their lip sizes reduced.

But uneven lips could be a noticeable problem and could affect your emotional health, and confidence if not dealt with.

Here are five ways to even out uneven lips.

Match Your Makeup To Lips

Match your lipstick to the existing color in your lips - not the other way round!

This is especially important when you're wearing bright colors such as bright reds and pinks, which tend to make lips look pale/lighter than they already are. It's advisable to go for a lipstick shade with blue or pink undertones, which helps enhance the natural pink in your lips and makes them appear fuller and more matched with your skin tone better.

Brownish lip colors like beige and caramel will also help in creating a fuller-looking lip in contrast with skin tone without adding any extra color on the face.

Hydrate Your Lips

Use a lip balm with SPF during the day for proper hydration that protects your lips from dryness caused by UV rays. Exfoliate your lips regularly to remove dead skin cells before applying the lip balms (and also help plump up fine lines/wrinkles).

Apply vaseline or cocoa butter at night before going to bed for an overnight treatment so you wake up with naturally full-looking pouty lips without any extra effort.

Facial Exercises

Your lips might be uneven due to underdeveloped or weak facial muscles, hence, toning them down could make your lips look even.

Some facial exercises that help are-

  • Bite your tongue and cheek gently, then blow out of your cheek like you're blowing up a balloon. This will push the cheeks outward.
  • Pull lips in and around your nose for 20 seconds while making an "O" with your mouth; this should stretch the skin on the top and bottom of the lip.
  • First make a fish face by puckering up, then keep it for a while and massage the area in between the lips with your fingers.
  • Put a straw in between your teeth and suck in, then try to puff out. Repeat this motion several times.

Lip Tattoos

Cosmetic tattooing fixes uneven lips by adding spots where they should beor fills in areas that the real lips never grew.

If you have uneven lips, they may be evened out cosmetically with a permanent tattoo and go by the name of "lip tattoo" or "permanent lip liner". This cosmetic procedure is very popular in Asia, where you even find some Korean celebrities with permanent lips.

However, tattoos are not just for show. Tattoos are often used to cover up scars, either on the face or on other parts of the body. Sometimes tattoos are also meant as a psycho-therapeutic tool for people who have had traumatic experiences and use tattoos to regain their self-confidence and trust and help them move on with life.

Lip Surgery

Lip surgery is another way to fix uneven lips if none of the other options work. Lip surgery is a bit more invasive and a longer procedure than the other procedures, but it does have its place.

Getting lip fillers injected is an option if you want to achieve fuller lips. You can do this in 4-6 sessions with 4 weeks intervals, which helps boosts collagen production, restores fullness, and moisturizes the lips by increasing hydration.

Lip fillers are different than lip surgery. The main purpose of lip surgery is to allow you to move the muscles in your lips so that they are the same size or functional symmetry. You can't get rid of asymmetry genetically or with fillers, but you can get rid of it surgically.

The surgery is done by making incisions inside the mouth, then potentially filling the mouth with an anesthetic to keep it numb for a certain period of time. Then several procedures can take place depending on what issues need to be addressed during surgery. The main issue that needs to be fixed is the muscles in the lip pulling one side of your mouth down or out adding length to one side of your lips.

Above are the five ways to even out uneven lips out of which you can opt for the natural methods first. If those don’t work then Lip Surgery is a safe option.

For most of us, one side of our upper and lower lips may be larger than the other or even uneven shape like heart-shaped or uneven width like one side wider than the other. It could be due to different factors – genetics, habits, sun exposure, etc.- we don't need to worry about it too much since most people with such problems tend to adapt themselves with their looks, but if you really want to make them perfect then you can definitely go for Lip Surgery.
