Does your hair fall in the rainy season?

Hair fall is a common problem that gets boosted during the rainy season. The majority of people experience more than 30% hair fall in the rainy season, and the reason is pretty scientific. High humidity in the surroundings allows hair to absorb more moisture (hydrogen) and as a result, it swells up. This process makes our hair brittle, frizzy, and easy to detach from its roots.

A damp hair area attracts dirt, fungus, and, bacteria that may cause redness, irritation, and infection. To avoid such a scenario, there are certain things to follow during the monsoon season:

  1. Don't tie wet hair, first let it dry
  2. Opt for a mild shampoo
  3. Follow a healthy diet pattern
  4. Drink ample water
  5. Avoid using dryer
  6. Keep your comb clean, personal and use a wide-toothed one
  7. Oiling once every week is essential.
  8. If the difficulty persists, then make an appointment with a trichologist.

Is hair fall in the rainy season normal?

Hair fall during the monsoon is pretty normal but, if you are shedding more than your pet, then it's a concern. We are not Rapunzel to have an endless mane, so each strand matters. According to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Rinky Kapoor, during the monsoon, our hair fall increases up to 250 strands or more. Hence, you are not alone.

You should remember that hair fall is normal but focus on the amount of hair you lose. Indeed, you cannot fully stop hair from falling, yet there are certain ways in which you can manage one.

  1. Take a break from fancy styles:

Ways to keep our hair out of the face are either a high pony, bun, braids, or other complex styles. But when hair is prone to breakage, then such fancy hairdos will only escalate the problems.

We should opt for accessories to style our hair. For instance, you can transform your scarf into a stylish hair wrap that compliments your style. It can also makeup for bad hair days. To manage your fringes, either hold it up with pins or try a front braid for an upright look.

  1. Have a healthy diet plan:

The truth is what we eat reflects our health, thus it is essential to follow a balanced diet to have healthy skin, hair, nails, and body. Caffeine consumption has increased exponentially in recent years, and it's one of the greatest causes of a dehydrated scalp. Instead, you should opt for 10 to 12 glasses of water each day to keep yourself rehydrated.

High sources of protein such as egg, meat, pulses, and sprouts should be included in our daily diet. Vitamin B12 is essential as it helps to generate red blood cells, thereby improving the oxygen level in our body. Zinc is also important for repairing hair tissues. Omega-3 helps to improve hair shaft health as well as helps to heal damaged roots. Fish oil, almonds, flaxseed's and walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Maintaining a proper diet helps to reduce hair fall in the rainy season.

  1. Less shampooing is best.

The primary step is knowing your hair type to prevent different problems such as dryness, frizz, and dandruff. It is essential to choose your hair product depending on your hair type, as a single product does not work for all. On the other hand, over washing doesn't improve scalp health, rather it causes dryness. A gap of 2 – 3 days is required between hair washes along with proper conditioning.

Shampooing for long hours, strips of natural oil from the scalp results in frizzy and tangled hair. Thus, conditioning is important to add moisture to the hair, thereby reducing breakage and having silky as well as smooth hair. Especially for the rainy season, if your hair gets wet between washes, then use a soft towel or air dry naturally instead of a dryer. A dryer would further damage weak strands. To be honest, for most of the crowd, hair fall in the rainy season is a temporary phase, but it may get doubled if you are under stress. Stress-induced hair fall is not a myth, but a fact, so stress management is important, especially in today's fast-pace world. Exercising is a significant way to reduce stress as well as maintain a healthy body. If you are in time constraining, then yoga and meditation are other two options for you.
