As with every surgical procedure, there are a few precautions to be followed before and after the hair transplant procedure.

Hair transplant precautions:  Before the surgery

• Avoid drinking Alcohol at least 72 hours prior to the surgery.
• Stop Nicotine consumption at least 2 weeks before the surgery.
• Do not take anti-inflammatory drugs like Aspirin as it increases the risk of post-operative bleeding.
• If you are on any medication, let the surgeon know beforehand.

Hair transplant precautions: After the surgery  

Do's

• Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first few days.
• Take the prescribed medications regularly. And use the recommended shampoo and lotion for at least 2 weeks.
• Shampoo the scalp gently.
• Use a wide toothed comb to lightly brush the hair.
• When going out, wear the hat suggested by the surgeon to protect the hair from sunlight.

Don’ts

• Avoid alcohol for at least a week, and Nicotine for 3-4 weeks after the surgery
• Avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs.
• Do not wash your hair for 48 hours after the surgery.
• Do not engage in heavy or strenuous exercise.
• Do not use heat or chemicals on the hair for at least 2-3 weeks (Avoid curling, straightening and dyeing).
• Avoid going out in harsh sunlight. Do not expose the scalp to direct sunlight for too long.
• Avoid T-shirts or pullovers as it might break the hair.
• Avoid wearing tight hats, bandanas and putting your hair in a bun.
•  Avoid touching the hair frequently.
