What is Otoplasty?

It also involves reconstruction of damaged, deformed and defective external ears, either due to natural causes or due to injury.

3. Non-surgical Otoplasty. It is done to correct deformities in the ear. Taping is a popular technique used here. The ear is taped down to set it right.
4. It can be safely performed on children. Otoplasty is the safest facial surgery procedure. It has a very low risk and can be safely performed on children as young as 5-year-olds.
5. It does not affect hearing. Contrary to popular belief, otoplasty does not affect one’s hearing. It neither improves hearing nor degrades it. It only changes the appearance of the external ear, which has very little to do with hearing.
6. Recovery/Healing time is low. One of the benefits of otoplasty is low recovery time. There is no need for an overnight stay at the hospital. The recovery period is less than 2 weeks. And, you can return to work immediately. Though most surgeons recommend avoiding strenuous work for 1-2 days and keeping the ears covered.
7. It can be performed on adults also. Though most otoplasty surgeries are performed on children, it can also be performed on people of any age.
8. It is covered by medical insurance. Otoplasty falls under reconstructive surgery. Hence is paid for by the insurance. But be sure to check in with your insurance company for better clarification.
