How to Treat Different Types of Scars
Skin is the largest organ of our body that covers and protects our whole physique. Scars can appear anywhere in our skin due to accidents, inflammation of cells, infection, or injury. It can be plain, lumpy, recessed, or discoloured.
Continue reading to know the different types of scars and their treatments.
Acne Scars
Acne often leaves a scar on the skin. This scar damages the looks as it occurs on the facial skin. However, there are different types of acne scars can be observed. Some acne leaves only blemishes. Other types of acne scars are ice pink scar, boxcar, keloid scar, and rolling scar.
Ice Pink Scar
This scar looks like a small pierce on the skin. It is deep and discoloured.
Treatment
Surgeons treat an ice pink scar by cutting the skin cells. After cutting it the natural skin grows with all tissues and it looks even.
If the scar is bigger, then the doctor removes the cells of that area and engraft other skin to that area to fill that skin. Generally, a part of the skin is taken from the back portion of the ear for engrafting.
Boxcar
It is around or oval-shaped depression of the skin. In this type of scar, the skin gets an uneven texture. It is bigger than the ice pick scar.
Treatment
Similar to the ice pink scar, the boxcar can also be treated using the punch excision technique. Besides grafting cells, surgeons lift the bottom cells of the depressed cell to level up the skin.
Botox treatment is also an easier way to treat boxcar. However, dermal fillers are not a permanent solution for it lasting for 18 months to 2 years depending on the further skincare and daily routine.
Rolling Scar
Rolling scars are almost similar to the boxcar scar. It makes skin looks wavy.
Treatment
Doctors treat this scar by subcision technique. Surgeons insert a needle under the acne scar to release the fibrosis that causes skin depression. Skin gets its natural texture back after the removal of the band.
Keloid Scar
Keloid scar appears due to the insistent treatment of a wound. It creates a lump over the injured area. The lump forms a result of over cell growth in the area.
Treatment
There are several treatments to fix the keloid scar. The surgeon can do laser treatment or push injection to shrunken the overly-developed skin cells. Steroid creams are also available to reduce the lumpy scar. However, it can only reduce the small lumps. Cryotherapy tapes are also helpful in reducing the swelled scar.
Now let’s take a look at the other types of scars.
Hypertrophic Scar
It is a type of scar that is similar to the keloid scar but not as severe as a keloid scar. This scar forms on the injured area but doesn’t spread beyond that area.
Treatment
Pressure treatment is done using a silicone gel pad to level up the lump.
Contracture Scar
A contracture scar is the result of burnt skin. It tightens up the skin that leads to impairment or inability to move.
Treatment
Besides, removing the skin completely, steroid injection, and silicone gel compression can also treat a contracture scar.
